Pacific Storm

Description

Inspiration for this painting came as I was walking down a path to the beach I had walked countless times before. Our good friend and neighbor Chuck had over time been trimming the spruce trees at the end of his path into a sort of tunnel of limbs. The marine forecast on this day was for huge seas and strong winds and as I reached the end of the trail I could see the storm approaching. The vertical image of gray sky and wind blown surf stuck instantly in my mind’s eye.

You may recall the explorer Magellan named the Pacific (peaceful) Ocean when he “discovered” it on a calm day centuries ago. Those of us who love the ocean know even on the stormy days we find a measure of peace watching the waves break against the shore.
