Touching Gold
Having spent most of my adult life in, on and around the ocean, I’m frequently asked, do you still surf? For the last 10 years or so I felt slightly insulted by the question’s implication that I must look too old to “paddle out”. During that time my response generally was, “only on days when it’s not too big, not too crowded, not too cold and nothing hurts”. Currently my answer is “I haven’t quit, but I don’t do it anymore”. Thankfully I can still surf in my mind’s eye and in my art.
