Tillamook Rock Lighthouse
By necessity all lighthouses are placed where they are exposed to everything a storm can throw at them. But being completely surrounded by the ocean presents an even greater threat to both lighthouse and keeper. Tillamook Rock sits all alone a mile out to sea off Tillamook Head on the north Oregon Coast. Its lighthouse is known to aficionados as “Terrible Tilly” because of the beating it has taken at the hands of the ragging North Pacific for well over a century. In this painting I was trying to capture the stately elegance this abandoned lighthouse has even when obscured by light fog.
We are reproducing this watercolor as a Giclèe Print on paper.
