Tangled Up In Gold
New techniques and discoveries go hand in hand and while I probably shouldn’t admit this, I had no roadmap at the beginning of this watercolor. I was simply experimenting and just started painting to see where it would take me. But at some point, I needed to take the wheel and establish a course of action, even if I didn’t know where I was going to end on my journey.
This watercolor turned out to be one of my ‘crinkle’ paintings, where after establishing the composition, the paper is soaked in a sink, waded up into a tight ball the size of a softball, then flattened back out allowing what’s there to dictate what direction comes next. Truth be told I had a forest painting with golden sunlight in mind early on, but beyond that I was just alone for the ride.
