Summer Sands

This old log, probably a spruce, has been around for decades and is likely still lying there. I’ve had this painting sketched on a piece of watercolor paper, ready to paint in my studio for about five years. Apparently, I’ve been waiting for the right moment where confidence and timing converge so I could do it justice.

When I initially happened upon this scene it just screamed SUMMER to me. The warm sand had been blown clean by our ocean breeze, the bleached driftlog was looking parched in the sun and the Sea Rocket in bloom presented just enough life in an otherwise barren setting. I wanted to nestle into the slope on my beach towel and soak in the warmth.
