Spindrift At Sunset

Some words just roll off the tongue beautifully. Spindrift is one of those and in my opinion, one of the most beautiful parts of any wave. As easy as it is to say, it’s also one of the most difficult oceanic things to paint, for me anyway. I added some Holbein Gold pigment to spice up this simple watercolor. I frequently use this paint containing finely ground mica because of its reflective qualities. It adds a little sizzle that can easily be missed by just glancing at the painting. Part of what pleased me with this watercolor was the sense of movement the soft edges communicate. The foam lace is the only thing in sharp focus as it’s nearly stationary to the eye when compared to the other elements of this painting.
