Sea Treasures

I started this oil by painting the sky, ocean and sand a few days before the 2017 Plein Air & More Arts Festival. That’s the outdoor painting (and other art forms) event in Cannon Beach each June. I needed something I could paint and hopefully complete while visiting with people over the three day event. I brought the chunk of beam (a beach treasure from a couple years ago) out onto the deck below the gallery and attached the glass float and flower basket so I could pretend I was overlooking the ocean.

Like most of us who have lived a full life, these “beach finds” show the miles they have traveled and could tell quite the tale if they could speak. In a way they do by the wear and tear of their years. The brilliant flowers on this sunny morning hopefully add life and hopefulness to the moment.
