The Wedding Tree

Description

My earliest memories of this landmark (also known as the Indian Wedding Tree) are from the early 1970’s when I moved to Cannon Beach to escape the big city. This tree had already deteriorated to the point it was not much more than a trunk with a few limbs but it still grabbed your attention. In its day the limbs were said to wrap around looking like arms to hold you. There was also a bench for watching the sunset.

While the tree is gone, except for photographs and our memories, this painting reminds me of those early days in Cannon Beach. Recently some dear friends brought in a small photograph of this landmark dated 1965. On the back it says “Charles- this is Cannon Beach- isn’t it beautiful?” Thanks Helen- It sure is!
