Sunset Overlook

Description

Shortly after we were married, Carol and I moved to Arch Cape where we were caretakers for a wonderful family who became very good friends. Our “job” was to live in the gatehouse and to keep their home up and ready for them to use whenever they wanted to come to the beach. It was a wonderful time of life raising young children a stones throw from the beach and enjoying each other. It also was key in allowing me the freedom I needed to paint and get our gallery up and running. One of my chores was to walk around their home several times a day to make sure everything was ok. This is the vista looking southwest from their deck I will always remember.

I also like to mention a design element that may not be noticed otherwise but adds to the harmony of the painting. It’s the way the limbs on the left of the tree and the clouds repeat the same angle and direction. Also the hue of the sky and the blossoms are closely related. These are conscious choices an artist makes to bring unity to a piece of artwork.
