Description
Of all the birds that summer on the north coast, Goldfinch are my favorite. They are cute, happy birds that flutter back and forth between the trees and feeder in our yard. I’ve been photographing them for years knowing when the time was right I’d have what I needed to complete a painting. They arrive about the same time the cherry trees bud and lift my spirit reminding us we are returning to longer days, filled with light, as we leave another winter behind.
This watercolor is one of my “crinkle” paintings where the paper is soaked in water and then waded up and flattened back out. The distressed watercolor paper then takes the paint unevenly creating the look of a misty forest in the background.
