Against The Wind

Description

I’ve lived a blessed life and I thank God for it, but like everyone I face storms in life and sometimes feel like I’m struggling “Against The Wind”. This spruce tree lives safely above the tide, but in the direct path of our powerful winter storms that over the years have sculpted it into this beautiful form. In the distance sit Jockey Cap and Silver Point rocks at the south end of Cannon Beach.

I’ve planned for years to use the title to the Bob Seger song “Against The Wind” when it seemed appropriate. I appreciate his poignant lyrics such as “wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then” and “I’ve got so much more to think about, deadlines and commitments, what to leave in and what to leave out”. As I continue to paint I daily realize “I’m older now but still running against the wind”.

This vista is part of one of my morning walks and as I climb the path leaving the beach, I always pause to check out the view, knowing the morning light and ocean fog offer inspiration every time. I also count my blessings!
