Five Floats Hanging
As a relentless beach comber I never tire of dragging home found objects. My crab float collection is slowly over taking the yard, but when I need just the right one for a painting I have it.
This oil was painted in three sessions, each a week apart. I started it in my studio by painting the background ocean, breakers, sand and sky to have something ready to work on for Plein Air & More Weekend. During the event I lashed a limb to a post below my gallery and hung the floats on it. With the painting started I could talk and paint while people watched and having the floats to refer to, we all benefited. I then brought the painting back into my studio and painted the evergreen foliage and the ropes the floats are handing from. It proved to be a great solution to the challenge of painting and talking at the same time.
