Down To Sunset

I acquired a new appreciation for our rugged coastline after speaking with a geologist friend of mine recently. Over time the ocean washes everything away except the hardest rock, basalt sea stacks in this case, leaving these beautiful forms and making inspiration for artists a little easier. Given the storms the trees endure, I’m amazed they survive and for that matter thrive clinging to rock in such a hostile environment. What comes from their struggle however is the unique, storm sculpted characteristics we love. For months this painting had been lying around in my studio patiently waiting for just the right moment to be completed. It’s the latest in my ongoing series of treed sea stacks at sunset.
