Yep, it’s a Western Gull. Not to be confused with a Herring Gull, California Gull and certainly not Thayer’s Gull. I’m hoping to paint each of them along with several other coastal birds, so I keep taking pictures and waiting for the right moment of inspiration.
This is an intimate painting, simple by design with a limited palette. The most important thing to me was to capture his relaxed pose before I got too close and everything changed on this calm morning bathed in coastal gray.
