Road To Oysterville

I have a strong emotional connection to the Long Beach Peninsula on the southern Washington coast. It was where I first got serious about painting watercolor many years ago and whenever I return I find inspiration EVERYWHERE. This is the Oysterville Cannery on the Willapa Bay side of the peninsula. Carol and I were headed home from a trip further up the coast and weren’t ready to call our time away over. So we took a right instead of a left and ended up, here. This cannery has so much soul! Hey, they even recycle the shells as gravel on the road. The late afternoon lighting was perfect and the subject called out to be painted. If you haven’t explored this part of the coast, treat yourself and make the trip up the backside of the peninsula and then down the ocean side. By the way, “willapas” are some of the finest oysters on the planet- “a taste of heaven locked between shells.”
