Geneva of Coos Bay

Description

This old salmon trawler had been hauled out for repairs at Charleston, near Coos Bay, Oregon. It’s rarer than you might think to find a boat with beautiful lines and this much “soul” bathed in dramatic light. Being perched in such an uncluttered setting was an advantage as I had little to remove or add to make the painting “work”. The evergreen trees behind the wheelhouse were like a dark curtain focusing my eye on the well lit star of the show. Fortunately, I found her before repairs were completed and she lost the weathered patina that comes with the hard life all working boats endure.

My boat paintings tend to be very detailed and consequently time consuming. Putting this watercolor into print seemed like the best choice knowing how long it may be before I find another maritime subject crying so loudly to be painted.
